We could be heroes just for one day!

3:29

Hello everyone!  Today's activity is all about superheroes!

The activity is thought to be used with kids and I have never tried it with adults, but maybe one day I'll give it a try depending on the group... You can also make as long as you want, just as a warm-up during the first 15 minutes or the whole session.

The purpose of the session is to do a review of physical descriptions (She has, He is, She is wearing, etc) and also take profit of the topic to introduce the function of expressing abilities with CAN.

As always, we are going to divide the session in 2 blocks: First, we are going to introduce the topic and practise and then the kids will produce their own free speech using what we have learnt. So there we go...

WE COULD BE HEROES JUST FOR ONE DAY!

1st INTRODUCE THE SUPERHEROES
  • MATERIALS WE NEED
    • Blackboard/Whiteboard
    • A drawing of a superhero and a superheroine (you can easily find  with a simple google search)

  • HOW TO...
Place both superheroes in the middle of the board and write the expressions that you need to describe them. The rest is even simpler, ask students who are them and start a brainstorming to fill each section of your board and take advantage of the exercise to drill. Ex:

T. What is superman wearing?
S. He is wearing blue pants
T. And you, Anna? Are you wearing blue pants?
S. No, I am wearing a red skirt.

Make sure they give you complete answers and if you are feeling adventurous, you can let them write in the board to complete the sections (they love it!).

Once, you finish this part, it's time to move on to abilities. Erase the board and write "She can" "He can", and then, start drilling again but this time you star! Kids will quickly understand the use of can since the meaning is pretty transparent in this context.

T. Superman can fly. Can you fly?
S. No we can't.
T. What else can superman do?
S. Superman can run fast.

2nd BECOME SUPERHEROES
  • MATERIALS WE NEED
    • Crayons
    • Superhero ID template (Click on the little arrow on the top right corner to download it!)

  • HOW TO...
All we have to to is to give each student an ID and ask them to complete their information. Let them do it freely but keep asking questions individually as they work.
Once they finish, you can ask them to introduce themselves or simply do a free speaking activity all together.

    Hope you enjoy it!

P.D.: Of course, I have to share this song with you to finish the post!
